Dan Evans, world No. 365, the third best tennis player in the UK behind Andy Murray and Alex Bogdanovic and member of the Great Britain Davis Cup team is to be questioned by police in connection with an alleged sexual assault.
The appeal said a woman left a nightclub XL in Bath, Somerset in early hours on March 19th with a friend and they began talking with two men before one pushed her on to a discarded mattress and sexually assaulted her.
Later, Avon and Somerset police published a photograph of three men as part of an appeal for more information. Evans was identified as one of the men in the photograph. The other two men are also believed to be tennis players.
A spokesman said: "We issued a picture in order to identify three men who we thought could help police with their inquiries following reports of a sexual assault.
"We have now identified the men in the picture and are currently making arrangements to speak with them in due course."
The Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) and Evans’ agent confirmed that Evans would co-operate with the authorities.
A spokesman said: "This is a police matter, and we will co-operate fully with the authorities in their inquiries. It would therefore not be appropriate for us to comment further at this time."
Two years ago, Evans was suspended by the LTA after being caught in a nightclub hours before a junior doubles match at Wimbledon. He was also denied access to the National Tennis Centre. And last year, he left National Tennis Centre to join the Win Tennis Academy at Bisham Abbey, Buckinghamshire, where he works with a personal coach, Mark Taylor.
