Petra Kvitova captured her first career WTA singles crown with a 7-5 6-1 victory over fellow Iveta Benesova in Friday's final at the Moorilla Hobart International.
"I'm very, very happy," said Kvitova. "It has been a good week for me. Now I'm hoping to do well in Melbourne, too. I have a tough first round though -- Azarenka is playing really well."
Kvitova and Benesova are good friends as well as compatriots. They were room-mates during the competition in Hobart, something Benesova joked about after the match.
"I don't know if I can call her a friend anymore," joked Benesova.
"We are sharing a room but I think I will kick her out tonight."
Kvitova joined in the irreverent mood by pleading with her friend to let her stay.
"I hope we sleep good tonight," the teenager said.
They are also both coached by David Kotyza, who was absent during the match having said he would not be able to watch if both players reached the final.
