Defending champion Venus Williams beat Elena Dementieva of Russia in straight sets 6-1, 7-6 (7/3) today to reach the Wimbledon tennis final for a seventh time in nine years.
Venus Williams, who has won Wimbledon four times and twice claimed the U.S. Open title, has yet to drop a set at Wimbledon this year.
The seventh seed can become the first player to successfully defend the women's title at the only grass-court Grand Slam since Serena beat her in the 2002 and 2003 finals.
The six-time Grand Slam champion Venus is now 7-0 in her Wimbledon semis and 57-7 overall in 12 trips to the All England Club. She defeated France's Marion Bartoli in last year's finale and also titled here in 2000, 2001 and 2005.
Venus owns 36 titles in 58 career finals and will perform in her first final of 2008 here on Saturday.
Her opponent in Saturday's final could be two-time champion Serena, who was next up on Centre Court to face 133rd-ranked Chinese wild-card entrant Zheng Jie.
"I'm looking forward to the final," said Venus, "I'm dying for Serena to get through and I'm looking forward to playing her and I'm looking forward to rooting her on."
