Fernando Gonzalez will be sidelined for 10 weeks after confirming that he is suffering from a bilateral patellar tendinitis.
Gonzalez, who has already withdrawn from Wimbledon due to the problem, is particularly disappointed to be missing the Davis Cup tie but he hopes to return for the start of Rogers Cup in Toronto, which starts August 9.
On his official web site Gonzalez said:
“Unfortunately I have bad news. The bilateral patellar tendinitis that I have will force me to be away from competition for 10 weeks. Because of that, I will have to skip Gstaad, Bastad, Hamburg and, most sadly, the Davis Cup quarter-final tie against Czech Republic at Coquimbo.
“The treatment I’m receiving makes me stop for a long time. If I come back for Davis Cup it would make the injury get worse and I wouldn’t even be at 50 per cent for those matches. I feel really bad about not playing the competition I like the most. I wish things were different, but they aren’t. If everything turns out as I hope, my return tournament will be at Masters 1000 Toronto.”
