Serena Williams defeated Elena Dementieva 6-3, 6-4 to reach her 13th Grand Slam final!
With the temperature of 111 degrees, the organizers finally closed the roof (which I think they should done from the beginning of the tournament) to protect the players and the crowd at the Rod Laver Arena.
Serena played great, it was her best match of the tournament. She blasted down 10 ace, while on the other hand, Dementieva committed eight double faults in the second set!
"I haven't moved like that for a while, so I was a little shocked," said Serena.
"I was really calm, I thought if I could add a little more spin and could play like Roger (Federer) there's no way I could lose," she said.
Dementieva has not gone past the semifinals at a Grand Slam since 2004.
Elena had been on a 15-match winning streak and had two titles to open the season, including wins over No. 2 Williams and No. 3 Dinara Safina at the Sydney International.
"I had a good run ...(but) I feel like today I was not quick enough," Elena said. "I was not maybe aggressive enough against her. She dictated points.
"But I have no regrets. I had just a great time here."
Serena who won 9 Grand Slams, of which 3 are Australian Open titles, will meet another Russian in the title match, Safina or Zvonareva.
"I am just really excited to be in the final, I don't care who I play," Williams said in a courtside interview. "I am just so happy to get this far all my work has paid off."
When asked how she would prepare for Saturday's final, she quipped: "Hopefully I will be playing a doubles final on Friday."
"Obviously I want to win doubles, I have the best partner," she added, referring to sister Venus before praising the crowd.
"You guys are so awesome, come back on Saturday and cheer for me please."
