Tamira Paszek defeated Bethanie Mattek-Sands 76(6) 26 75 to win Bell Challenge in Quebec City, her second WTA Tour title.
"It's overwhelming," said Paszek. "I'm extremely happy. Anytime you win a tournament for the first time it's very special. This is something I'll remember the rest of my life."
She added: "I want to thank my family and friends for supporting me during tough times last year.
"I always believed I could come back."
Mattek-Sands, who reached her first career final in Quebec in 2008, said:
"This is my best tournament. When I made the final here again I really wanted to get my picture up on the champion's wall. Tamira is a tough player. She was injured for a little bit but obviously playing qualifying here and making it all the way to the final, she has been playing really well."
In the doubles final, Sofia Arvidsson and Johanna Larsson beat Mattek-Sands and Barbora Zahlavova Strycova 61 26 106 to win their first Tour title together.
Jarmila Groth defeated Alla Kudryavtseva 61 64 to win Landsky Lighting Guangzhou International Women's Open, her first Sony Ericsson WTA Tour title.
"I rang my husband straight after the match. I knew he was flying in half an hour so I was trying to catch him to tell him I won," Groth said. "I played pretty well in most of my matches this week. I was very consistent and served well, which helped me put a lot of pressure on my opponent to hold serve. I didn't give a lot of chances to my opponents and was able to take mine to close them out."
Groth will now crack the Top 50 for the first time. "Hopefully I can get higher now as the main goal is to be seeded for the Australian Open. There won't be much time to celebrate unfortunately. I have a 9am flight to Seoul, where I play Nadia Petrova first round, so I'll pretty much go back to the hotel and pack my bags!"
Kudryavtseva said: "I'm a bit disappointed but she played great tennis throughout the week so congratulations to her. I'm really happy with the overall experience. We were both here without our coaches and actually warmed up together before the match. We rode here together, warmed up together and are probably going to the airport together tomorrow as well. So it was funny and a great time, and it has definitely been one of the best weeks of the year for me. I'm pretty sure I'll be back next year as I have a lot of points to defend now!"
In the doubles final, Edina Gallovits and Sania Mirza defeated Han Xinyun and Liu Wanting 75 63 to win the title.
