Just 10 days before the start of the US Open, things don't look so good for Jelena Jankovic. After being knocked out in the third round of the Cincinnati last week, and in the second round of San Diego the week before that, JJ, who played only four matches in three tournaments this month after missing two weeks with an ankle injury, was beaten yesterday 7-6 (7-3) 6-3 by qualifier Iveta Benesova in the second round of the Rogers Cup in Montreal.
"I didn't really feel like a top-five player out there," said Jankovic, who has never won the Rogers Cup. "I wasn't on my game, especially on the return. I couldn't stay in the points long and made a lot of errors. I just didn't feel like myself out there. I haven't been playing well for the last couple tournaments. I did my best."
"Iveta played really well. She was really solid," Jankovic said. "I think she felt confident because she played matches here already and felt comfortable."
JJ hopes that she can find her game in the short time that remains before the start of the final Grand Slam of the year on Aug. 30.
"I really wanted to play matches here, and at the last tournament, but I didn't do that and now I haven't played many matches before the U.S. Open," Jankovic said. "So I'll just try my best over there, and hopefully I'll be better."
