Chris Evert was inducted to The Rogers Cup Hall of Fame on Monday evening. Denys Arcand, screenwriter and director of The Barbarian Invasions, presented the commemorative plaque to Evert.
Evert, who is five-time Canadian Open champion, including four-time Rogers Cup presented by National Bank winner, won 157 tournaments, including 18 Grand Slam titles. And for whole decade she dominated the world tennis scene on clay court.
"I still love Montreal and this tournament," said Evert. "Not only because I won it several times but also because I always appreciate the loyal support of the crowd."
Ten male and female players are part of the Rogers Cup Hall of Fame. Among the international stars are Martina Navratilova, Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario, Monica Seles, Ivan Lendl, John McEnroe and Boris Becker.
