Serena Williams defeated Vera Zvonareva 6-3, 6-2 in a final that lasted just 67 minutes to win her fourth Wimbledon crown and 13th overall Grand Slam title.
Serena, who also won Wimbledon in 2002, 2003 and 2009, improved her record to 13-3 in Grand Slam finals. However, this was the first time she defeated someone other than her sister Venus in the final.
"My dream was able to come true," Serena said after accepting the Venus Rosewater Dish from the Duke of Kent with a curtsy. "Everyone's dream can come true if you just stick to it and work hard. This one is very special."
With this title, Serena tied Billie Jean King for fourth most Wimbledons and she passes King for sixth most overall majors in the Open Era.
During the on-court ceremony, she turned to King, who was sitting in the Royal Box, and said: "This one's very special. Hey, Billie — I got you. This is No. 13 for me now. It's just amazing to able to be among such great people."
"That's actually my lucky number," Serena said of No. 13.
"I want to congratulate Vera. She played amazing here. She's been through so much in the last year. Everyone should give her a round of applause... she defines what a champion and never giving up means."
Serena, who won 31 of 33 points when her first serve was good, hit her fastest serve — 122 mph — for an ace in the final game. She finished the tournament with a record 89 aces.
"I've honestly never served this well," Serena added. "Whenever I come on this grass, on this amazing Centre Court, I start serving well. I want to keep it up."
On question how far is she planning to go, she said: "I love my dogs; I love my family; I love going to the movies; I love reading; I love going shopping. I would love to open more schools in Africa or in the United States, and I would love to help people. I would like to be remembered like, 'She was a tennis player, but she really did a lot to inspire and help other people.' That's what I think about - not about Serena Williams won X amount of Grand Slams."
Zvonareva was playing in her first Grand Slam final althougt it was the 30th Grand Slam tournament she has played!
"I could have done better today, but Serena played really well. She didn't give me chances to get into the match," Zvonareva said after the match. "I'm such a perfectionist I wouldn't consider this a fabulous result, and I feel like I could have done better, but I was able to come through a lot of difficult matches for the past two weeks, and it gives me more confidence moving forward."
