Kim Clijsters was forced to pull out from Roland Garros due to a left foot injury. A new CT scan on Friday showed that the injury was healing well, but also that there is still fluid around the ankle.
"I am very disappointed to have to pull out of Roland Garros," Clijsters said. "It's almost like a home tournament for me, being so close to Belgium, and I played my first Grand Slam final there nine years ago, so there are many special memories there. Unfortunately, despite trying everything I could to be fit in time, and having seen a specialist this morning, I still have some pain in my foot. Therefore I had to make this difficult decision. I hope the extra rest will mean I can be ready for the grass in a few weeks' time.
"I really look forward to returning to Paris next year with a little better luck."
