Jelena Jankovic defeated Anabel Medina Garrigues 6-2, 6-0 in 68 minutes to reach the quarterfinal at the Madrid Open.
"I felt much better today in the night match. I rested the whole day," JJ said. "I moved better and was hitting the ball much cleaner, so overall I played a much better match than I did yesterday. I hope to keep getting better."
JJ, who defeated Ana Ivanovic in the second round, looked confident and played really well against Garrigues.
"Yesterday was my first match here, so I couldn't really expect anything special from myself," she said. "Today was much better and I'm really pleased."
Jelena, who is currently world No. and who could rise to No.3 if she takes the title this weekend, recorded the 400th singles match win of her career against Medina Garrigues.
"For a while I wasn't enjoying my tennis," said Jelena. "But now I'm back on track and maybe playing better than I ever have, especially on these clay courts. I feel healthy and I'm enjoying my tennis. I'm also improving my game, which is the most important thing."
Jelena will next face Aravane Rezai who defeated Andrea Petkovic 6-4 7-6.
