Gisela Dulko and Flavia Pennetta defeated Nadia Petrova and Samantha Stosur 6-3, 4-6, 10-7 to win women’s doubles title at the 2010 Sony Ericsson Open in Miami.
“We were I think both of us nervous,” said Dulko. “We wanted to win the title bad. It was just a little bit of nerves in the tie-break. So I think we play good at the end. We maybe hit more first serves in. Maybe one or two less mistakes and we won the tie-break.”
This was their fourth Sony Ericsson WTA Tour doubles title in six finals. They won the 2006 Bogota title on their partnership debut and also won titles in 2009 at Hobart and Bastad.
"It's my first big tournament with Flavia. We had won a few titles before, but this is the most important," Dulko said. "We enjoyed ourselves and it feels great. We had such a tough draw. But we played better and better every match."
This was the sixth final Dulko and Pennetta reached in 15 events together. Being very good friends off the court is maybe a reason for successful play.
"We have fun on and off the court. It's important when you play to just be happy. That's how we were all the time," Pennetta said. "We didn't party here - we went to eat almost every day, we went to have breakfast together every day, we went to the beach, we went shopping... we were like sisters here!"
