Caroline Wozniacki was defeated by Lucie Safarova 6-4 6-4 in 66 minutes at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart.
"I didn't feel like I could move 100% today, and if you can't move, it's difficult to win," Wozniacki said. "Lucie definitely played a good match. And although I hate to lose, the most important thing right now is to get 100% fit again."
This was their first match and it was Safarova's fifth career win over a Top 5 player.
"I was trying to concentrate on each point. I was serving very well and my plan was to make her run," Safarova said. "It's nice beating the No.2 player. I don't think she was moving as well as she could, but from my side I played great."
No.6 seed Victoria Azarenka was defeated by a Russian qualifier Anna Lapushchenkova 63 63. This was first Anna's career quarterfinal on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour, in fact, she had never won back-to-back main draw matches on the Tour before.
