Andy Roddick withdrew from the Rome Masters, which begins Sunday, due to personal reasons. He doesn't have any ranking points to defend because he also skipped this tournament last year when he took a break after the wedding.
The tournament is mandatory for top-ranked players but Roddick will not be fined because, as a veteran with over 600 matches played on tour, he is allowed one free exemption per year.
The ATP said it expects Roddick to be back in action for the start of the Madrid Masters on 9 May, two weeks before the French Open.
