Sony Ericsson Open

Roger Federer was defeated by Tomas Berdych 6-4, 6-7, 7-6 in the fourth-round of the Sony Ericsson Open in match that lasted 2 hours and 51 minutes and finished at 12.15 a.m. with a record Tuesday night session crowd of 12,804 fans!

Federer committed 62 unforced errors and was broken three times, as Berdych saved eight of 10 break points to end his eight-match losing streak against the Federer and set up a quarter-final clash with Fernando Verdasco, who defeated Marin Cilic 6-4 7-6 (7-3).

"I fought as much as I could," Federer said. "My game has issues at the moment. I'm definitely lacking timing. I don't know where that comes from. It fuels my desire to go to the practice courts, because I don't like to lose these type of matches."

Berdych, ranked 20th in the world, refused to get carried away by his surprise victory.

"To beat the number one player in the world, the best player so far is a great feeling. But still, it was not a final," said Berdych.

"There is another match waiting next day, another really tough opponent."

  1. Anonymous Said,

Federer Lost this match because he is not in a good form and the unforced errors of his back hand. So Federer will come back again with his skills.
