Jelena Jankovic defeated Samantha Stosur 6-2 6-4 to reach the BNP Paribas final in Indian Wells.
“I thought the key to today's match was my return,” said Jankovic. “Samantha has an unbelievable serve, one of the best serves in women's game, and I was able to return a lot of her first serves. I was putting a lot of pressure on her second serve. So I think that was the key, because I was able to break her quite a few times. And then it made everything easier for me.”
Jankovic's previous best performance in Indian Wells was a semi-final loss to eventual champion Ana Ivanovic in 2008. This final will be her 23rd Sony Ericsson WTA Tour final of her career. Last year she was 2-1 in finals, winning in Marbella and Cincinnati but finishing runner-up to Maria Sharapova in Tokyo.
"I'm feeling good and I'm happy to be in the finals. It's my first time in the finals here," Jankovic added. "I have had some tough matches here and some good wins. I'm going to try my best and see what happens. Maybe I can win another title. I'm looking forward to playing my first final of the year on Sunday."
Jankovic will try to win her first title in seven months on Sunday, when she will face Caroline Wozniacki who defeated Agnieszka Radwanska 62 63.
