Flavia Pennetta became the first Italian female to reach the world's top 10!
The 27-year-old beat Slovak Daniela Hantuchova 6-3 6-3 to reach the semi-finals of the Cincinnati Open and ensuring she will break into the top 10 when the new rankings are released. She was stopped by Safina in the tournament semifinals, ending her 15-match winning streak. The run, which included two tournament titles, boosted Pennetta to No. 10 in the world.
"This means a lot. Everyone was expecting this from the beginning of the year because I was No.11 in February, and everyone was talking about it all the time," Pennetta said. "It is a dream come true for me. I always hoped to be one of the best players in the world, and now I'm there. It's crazy."
Congrats Flavia!!
