Roberta Vinci defeated defending champion Maria Kirilenko 6-0, 6-4 to win her second WTA Tour title at the Barcelona Open on Sunday. Vinci was playing in just her second career WTA singles final, having also won at Bogota in 2007 after her opponent, Tathiana Garbin, was forced to retire with an illness.
"I am so happy!" Vinci said. "It's such a great feeling to win again. It has been a long time since I played well. I felt good after Marbella - I had a good match against Jankovic and it gave me confidence coming here to Barcelona."
Maria Kirilenko was trying for her sixth career WTA singles title in her eighth final -- with three of those titles coming last year. However, she had won just two matches in six previous events this year before her success at this tournament.
In the doubles, Nuria Llagostera Vives and Martínez Sánchez the top seeds defeated the unseeded pairing of Cirstea and Andreja Klepac in the final to take home their third title of the year, their fourth overall.
