Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic defeated Mahesh Bhupathi and Mark Knowles 6-3, 7-6(9) to win Barcelona Open Banco Sabadell title, their second title in two weeks. This was Nestor's 100th ATP World Tour doubles final!
"It’s special because I won," Nestor said about playing in his 100th final. "It’s not fun to be in final number 100 and lose because it’s a special day. It’s nice that I won. Winning a title is always a nice thing. I’ve won three times here in Barcelona and I’ve always played well here so it’s nice to win."
"Both weeks were a bit similar," said Nestor about their performance the past two weeks. "We were struggling to make the final but when we got to the final we played better. After three straight first-round losses on the hard court it’s nice to win. This is when we started playing well last year. Obviously this stretch has been good to us so hopefully we can keep it up."
Zimonjic said: "It’s a great feeling to win two titles in a row. It was really an honour to be on the court with guys that have won so many titles. It was Daniel’s 100th final, also Mark’s 90-something. Even Mahesh is not far behind. I’m like a pioneer with these guys and trying to catch up. It was high quality tennis from both ends. Not giving pretty much anything. It was a really interesting tie-break to finish. I’m really happy. Hopefully we can continue to play like this in Rome."
