Tommy Robredo defeated Juan Monaco, the 2007 winner of the event, 7-5, 2-6, 7-6 in the title match of the Copa Telmex tournament in Buenos Aires. This was his second ATP win of the year and ninth of his career.
"Coming back from the rain break I felt a bit tired," said Robredo. "All of a sudden I wasn't moving as well. But in the third set I picked back up and played great tennis."
"It's been a difficult tournament with changing conditions all the time," Robredo said of the wind and blistering heat. "It's the first time I've finished with my shoes full of water."
"I am very happy for having won back-to-back titles for the first time in my career," said the world number 17.
"I trained hard to be able to play well in consecutive weeks."
Monaco, defending champion, appeared to be in control after a lengthy rain delay halted play early in the second set. The Argentine had dropped the first set, but dominated the second after the stoppage and opened a 3-0 lead in the third before faltering.
"I'm upset for missing so many opportunities. I had the control in most of the points but he played better in the tie-break," said Monaco.
