Pro Mardy Fish got up close and personal with some other creatures of the sea in Sydney Friday, before beginning his preparations for the Medibank International, an ATP World Tour 250 event.
The American, along with wife, Stacey Gardner, and coach Craig Boynton visited Darling Harbour’s Sydney Aquarium for a tour through the venue and then a behind-the-scenes look at the aquarium’s inhabitants.
Fish and Gardner then hopped into a glass bottom boat above Australia’s largest Great Barrier Reef oceanarium. The pair then threw bait into the water, feeding the array of reef sharks below.
“The little guys were nibbling at most of the stuff, but right at the end the big guy came up and got probably the biggest piece we threw in,” said Fish.
“It would have been pretty cool to get in the water with the sharks, you don’t get that opportunity every day. But i’m glad everything went well here at the Sydney Aquarium and we got to feed the sharks”.
Feeding sharks though is a smelly business according to Stacey who said she was hopeful of getting the bait stench off Mardy’s hands, “We’re going to scrub his hands. I think we’ll be okay”.
