Well, what to say about the 5 hours and 14 minutes long semifanal match today? I'm speacless! The tennis that Rafael Nadal and Fernando Verdasco showed to us was amazing!
In a thriller match which lasted till 1AM, Rafa defeated Nando 6-7 (4-7), 6-4, 7-6 (7-2), 6-7 (1-7), 6-4. This was the longest match in Australian Open history!
The match ended with Nando's double fault, and I have to say I was so sorry it ended. It was so great watching it that I wished it could last forever!
"Today was one of those matches you are going to remember for a long time," said Nadal. "Fernando was playing, I think, at his best level. He deserved this final, too. His level was very good."
I agree with Rafa, but only one player can go to final, this time Rafa!
"I feel very happy more than tired," Nadal said. "For sure, it's going to be a tough final in one day and a half, because my opponent will be very difficult. But it was amazing for me to play here in this match. It was one of the best matches in my career."
Verdasco had come to terms with the loss quickly. "It's sad to play one match like this," he said. "I have lost after five hours, but I need to be proud of the tournament I played. It was an unbelievable match we both played. I have said always in these matches in five sets, he's the toughest player, but I was there all the time too."
Verdasco hit 95 winners to Nadal's 52, had 20 aces to Nadal's 12, but made 76 unforced errors to only 25 for Nadal.
"He hit 95 winners," Nadal said. "That's a lot I think. Fernando is playing unbelievable, his serve was amazing. Today, he deserved the win too."
