Andy Murray defeated world number one Rafael Nadal 6-4, 5-7, 6-3 in the final of the Abu Dhabi exhibition on Saturday.
The tournament, not part of the ATP Tour, included six of the world's top 10 players.
Murray, is ranked No. 4 and has yet to win a Grand Slam. He has a chance to change that at the Australian Open, which starts starts Jan. 19.
"This victory was good before I go to Australia," said Murray, who will first defend his Qatar Open title in Doha. "I have never been past the fourth round there. I trained hard over the break and the victories over the past three days have given me confidence."
Andy also defeated world number two Roger Federer in the semi final of the same tournament.
"It is a great start to the year. I worked very hard on my fitness and game in November and December and both Rafa and Roger played great tennis, so I am delighted that I could beat them," said Andy.
Murray's only previous victory over Nadal in six matches was at the U.S. Open semifinals in September.
"Today was a very good test for the knee. It was a two hour 45 minutes of high-quality, and I'm feeling very well," said Rafa.
On Murray, Nadal added: "He was very good towards the end of last year, and he is really playing well right now. I think he has got a great chance in Australia. I thought I played very good, but obviously, Andy played a little better."

Rafa is so awesome... always so gracious in defeat.
So relieved his knee is healed, too.
He got $500,000 for 2 matches and a really nice punchbowl to boot.
On to Australia!
Andy's been working like a maniac, pole-vaulting in Miami. He's undoubtedly gonna take some slams this year.
Hi Gio, sorry for such a late replay, but my mail provider just send those notifications about the blog comments to my junk mail, so I didn't even know about some of the comments that were left on my page!
No Slam for now for Andy. He lost today from Nando, so he'll have to wait few more months!
And Rafa is a great person, always so nice, I really like him a lot!
