On Monday night Vogue was hosting an intimate cocktail party in honor of the announcement that tennis ace Maria Sharapova has officially been crowned the new face of Cole Haan Sporting.
Anna Wintour, Jason Wu, Peter Som, Malin Akerman, Taylor Momsen, Nastia Liukin and Thakoon Panichgul attended the event too.
“Maria is fearless, she’s driven, she’s passionate,” said Jim Seuss, CEO of the company. “Our consumer likes to travel like her and she truly exemplifies this amazing, glamorous sense of adventure.”
When asked about the new collaboration, Maria said, "Cole Haan Sporting proves that fashion and technology can work together to change the way women think about and wear sport-inspired product. I look forward to working with Cole Haan to bring new innovations to this leading fashion brand with such a rich history."
The line, scheduled to hit stores in February, offers 40 casual pieces for women, and 30 for men.
It will be available at Cole Haan boutiques worldwide, luxury department stores and on ColeHaan.com. Price points range from $115 to $200 for footwear and $225 to $550 for accessories.
So Maria: How did this collaboration come about?
Maria: I’ve obviously worked with Nike for many years, and Cole Haan is such a respected and established brand that we really envisioned something special. I’m humbled that they gave me this opportunity. It’s a huge step for me in the fashion world to gain trust from such a huge brand.
How will you fit this into your schedule?
Maria: By fortune or misfortune I have a lot of time on my hands. I was able to come into a meeting with a lot of ideas and sketches. Usually, I just talk a lot. This time I came in with inspiration boards.
You have a room full of young designers giving you the love today!
Maria: It’s incredible. I’ve just been collecting their phone numbers. I was at Peter’s show today and hours later, it’s so nice of him to come and support me. But I believe that it’s important to build relationships with these talents.
The men’s final is happening as we speak. Are you following the scores?
Maria: I have not, actually. As soon as I found out that I won’t be competing in the Open, I just decided to skip the whole tennis score mode altogether. What is there to think about?
