Janko Tipsarevic, known for his tattooes, wraparound glasses and creativity on the court outlasted Roddick 6-7 (7-5), 7-5, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4). Roddick served 27 aces, but he was 0-for-8 on break point chances and he squandered three set points in the final set. It was the first time he had lost at the All England Club before the third round.

"He's capable of playing well, especially when you give him opportunity after opportunity and kind of let him off the hook. I mean, that's not shocking," said Roddick.

"Angry and disappointed in myself? Absolutely."

Tipsarevic is beginning to specialise in knocking out the No 6 seeded player at Wimbledon, as he also did it a year ago against the Chilean Fernando Gonzalez. That led to his best grand slam result to date, managing to reach the last 16 for the only time in his career.

"I don't normally play Top 10 players on Centre Court, and I really enjoyed playing, even if I had lost," Tipsarevic said.

Tipsarevic admitted he caught Roddick on a bad day and capitalized on his mistakes: "I could see he was tight. Professional tennis players feel the intensity and see when the other guy is choking. If you can read that, it's a great bonus and benefit for you.''

Tipsarevic now faces Russia's Dmitry Tursunov for a place in the last 16.

So twenty four hours after third seed Novak Djokovic was ejected from the tournament, Janko Tipsarevic kept alive Serbian interest in the men's draw.
