The Frenchman went down 6-4 2-6 6-3 to Serbian Janko Tipsarevic and the Spaniard 6-3 1-6 6-3 to American Sam Querrey.

Elsewhere, Juan Carlos Ferrero and 16th-seed Philipp Kohlschreiber beat Michael Llodra and Jose Acasuso respectively.

Joining them in the second round are Robin Soderling, Kristof Vliegen, Filippo Volandri, Nicolas Lapentti, Mario Ancic and Olivier Rochus.
