Ana and Jelena lead into elite!

Posted by Lana On 4/28/2008 12:48:00 PM

Serbia female tennis players moved to the second round of the B Group of the Federation Cup defeating Croatia 3:2. The decisive point for our country was earned by Ana Ivanovic, world no. 2 player. Although suffering from viral cold she managed to overcome Nika Ozegovic 7:5, 6:1.
A day earlier Ana Jovanovic (ranked 268th in the world) did an excellent job. She replaced sick Ana Ivanovic and surprised Jelena Kostanic-Tosic defeating her 6:4, 7:5. As expected Jelena Jankovic defeated Nika Ozegovic 6:1, 6:2.

Ana Ivanovic was not playing at her level and made numerous service errors. Nevertheless she showed her great talent.
’I am very happy that I was able to play and bring the key point to our team. I was nervous at the beginning serving poorly, but in the second set I found my focus and improved my game. I played the best I could as I always do because I never underestimate my opponent. The audience was fair it applauded for every nice point. I am only sorry the atmosphere was not with more emotions as it is usual for Fed Cup matches. I am sorry I was unable to play the first day but Ana Jovanovic who replaced me deserves all credits’, Ivanovic said.
The next goal of our team is to move to the strongest world group.
‘We are very proud at this success since the whole team took part in it. I think we had potential to win the title and be in the group of the best’, Ana Ivanovic added. The following days she shall spend in Belgrade and then travels to Berlin where she defends the title.
Jelena Jankovic, is delighted that our team is finally in the World Group.
‘I am very happy that we are for the first time in the history of Serbian tennis in the Group B. We came to Zagreb to win and are coming home happy’, said.
